SF Local Hiring Success Continues
The San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development presented a mid-year local update to the 12-member Mayor's Construction Workforce Advisory Committee on October 30, 2013.
Halfway into the third year of mandatory local hiring, outcomes continue to exceed minimum local employment requirements. Across 1.9 million hours of public works construction in which contractors were required to deliver a 20-30% local workforce with 50% local apprentices, San Francisco residents have performed 35% of total work hours and 61% of apprentice hours.
The San Francisco Department of Public Works (39% overall local workforce, 63% local apprentices) and Public Utilities Commission and Department of Public Works (37% overall, 76% apprentices) lead the way among City departments.
